New York Giants Use Training Tips From Endurance Athletes

With spring in the air, most Americans are thinking about baseball
But for football teams, this is the start of rigorous off season training. Anyone who doesn’t consider a football linebacker as an endurance athlete needs to watch them train, off season

This year the New York Giants decided to take some advice from elite endurance athletes to change up their training methods and develop better methods for staying physically fit throughout the year.

Along with the elite endurance athletes belonging to the Timex Multisport Team, Giants players will begin their training camp March 15th with a focus on heart rate monitoring. This presents some logistic challenges due to the larger number of athletes being monitored but digital heart rate systems provided by Timex are sure to help.

In the initial stages of this new training approach, 15 players including Shaun O’Hara, Kevin, Boss, and Aaron Ross, will be the first to receive monitoring that allows a better gauge of fitness levels and safety thresholds. The hope is that the players’ resting heart rates and the time to recover can be compared from the start of the post-season training to its end in June. As well, heart rate changes that occur during certain exercises will be tracked in order to determine exertion levels for the various activities required on the football field. That information will be applied to training levels during the intense heat of August when preseason games begin.

But heart rate monitoring won’t just be tracked inside the training facility. The core group of players undergoing the new training methodology will take their digital heart rate devices home so that complete data can be compiled over the off season period. This will also ensure that the players are getting necessary conditioning without a break in between the initial mini-camp and the more intensive training camp before the start of the football season – or that they are not over training.

Another training necessity crossing over from endurance sports to football is a calcium, drug free supplement to help prevent and heal stress fractures. Functional Movement Screens, proper nutrition, and the use of underwater treadmills will join efforts to prevent injury in the Giants players this year.

Of course, heart rate monitoring and drug free supplements are nothing new to those triathletes and marathon runners who regularly participate in endurance sports. Even though football is more of an anaerobic sport, there are periods of intense aerobic activity that occur during a game. Keep a close eye on the performance of the Giants players when the preseason games begin and determine for yourself if this new training approach works.

Is there Sodium in Extreme Endurance?

There is no Sodium in the Extreme Endurance formula.

We are introducing two new sport drinks very soon and they both will have Sodium in their list of ingredients.

The Attraction of the Triathlon

For anyone who has never competed in a triathlon, you may be wondering why someone would put themselves through the rigors and limit-pushing cardiovascular exercise involved. Swimming, biking, running – all in one day, all by one endurance athlete.

The most common reason an endurance athlete gives for their obsession with triathlon competition is personal satisfaction. Sure, there’s the endorphin rush. There’s also the excitement of competing against other athletes, some of who are viewed as the best in the world. But when it comes down to it, racing across that finish line is its own reward.

Triathlons are popular due to the variety of races that abound, too. Various events focus on longer distances for swimming versus running and bicycling, or vice versa. Some of them, like the super sprint or Olympic, start with the lengthiest leg of the course then taper down to a shorter run. Ironman and half Ironman courses include long bicycling legs.

Not only does training for triathlon competition get your body into fantastic shape, it has a positive psychological effect. It encourages sustained motivation, self-esteem, and following through to reach goals.

Training for a triathlon cannot be taken lightly. Most endurance athletes train six days a week, every week, no matter the weather or mood. Because triathlons require exceptional skills in all sports, the focus is not on one particular type of exercise, but many that strengthen muscles, increase endurance, and dissolve body fat. Of course, the triathlete must also spend time in the swimming pool, on the bike, and covering distance on foot.

Professional endurance athletes know that diet and gradual tapering off periods of training are necessary to achieve optimum performance. It is always beneficial to watch recorded video of the race and identify areas of opportunity, too. Drug free supplements like Extreme Endurance are a necessity in order to combat the body’s increased acid, muscle trauma, oxidative stress, inflammation, and immune system suppression. There’s a lot involved in getting ready to compete against the best in the sport.

No matter what type of triathlon event you compete in, it all comes down to those last final seconds when the finish line is in sight and you know you’ve accomplished what the majority of people cannot.
