If you run next to Heidi during an event, you won’t see her extraordinary smile. She saves that for the finish line. Her triathlon career started at age 15 and she is still going strong!

Heidi leaves her native Germany and travels the world for training and competition alongside her biggest asset, her coach and motivator, Jürgen Sessner. Jürgen owns Corpus Diagnostik, a specialized training facility for athletes and also holds several camps for triathletes throughout the year.

A typical training day (in Arizona) for Heidi is going to the local YMCA and swimming for 2 hours – coming back for a stretch and then hopping on her bike and heading towards Camelback Mountain. If she gets lost, don’t worry, she will just add 2 more hours to her bike ride and her total time spent cycling will be about 6 hours. Then watch out salad bowl! She piles more healthy food into one big bowl than any NFL player eats in a month! Heidi knows that she needs good fuel so she can get up the next day and go running for 5 hours. And she trains with the enthusiasm of a teenager!

Heidi won the Lanzarote Duathlon in January of 2009 and has been to Hawaii Ironman   several times. Once while competing in Ironman Wisconsin, at 40 km her shift broke on her bike and she wasn’t able to switch to the big gears. Heidi’s first thought was;  “Oh God, what should I do now? That’s the end of my race…” But then another athlete passed me and shouted: “Shit happens, go on and give your personal best.” And so I did the last 140 km with a real high cadence. But in the end I got 4th woman overall! So I never gave up!

This year we don’t see Heidi’s name on the list of competitors in Hawaii and we know Heidi doesn’t give up…so we came to one conclusion – Jürgen got down on his hands and knees and proposed to his one-time student. (Jürgen claims that he didn’t get down on his knees) but we are happy to say that Heidi and Jürgen will be getting married in Lanzarote this November! Congratulations to both!
