Lucie Zelenkova
Lucie was born in July 1974 in the Czech Republic. She was very lucky to have very sporty, supportive parents and remembers being out with them, especially my dad, doing any and all kind of sports, constantly. They would spend every summer at the big dam close to our city and learned how to swim before she knew how to walk. It didn’t take long till a swimming teacher noticed this small kid swimming up and down and her first sport was decided. She was swimming at national level all the way to matric, when suddenly the smell of chlorine wasn’t appealing any longer. During her first year at University she started missing the atmosphere of the races and was looking for a new challenge…. she always had a bike to cycle around on and was doing small running races so idea of triathlon sounded like a good fit.
She started with Olympic distance races but only began to take it more seriously after finishing her University studies. She quickly made it onto the national team and raced at 6 European Championships, 2 World Championships and endless amounts of ITU Cups and World Cups. Her biggest achievement was top 10 at WC in Salford and being a member of Czech Olympic Team in Athens 2004.
Only when she discovered long distance racing did she find her real strength and passion. She never thought of herself as an endurance athlete and the idea of Ironman seemed previously impossible.
Thanks to her Masters degree in teaching, many years of racing and always being interested in training science, she found her next passion, coaching. There isn’t a bigger sense of accomplishment than being able to help people to reach their goals and dreams… and is thankful to have Xendurance to help propel her busy lifestyle.
