Matt Malloy
Matt is a 42 old father of four in his 6th year of triathlon. 2011 was his best year to date and saw Matt qualify for Kona in his first attempt at Ironman in Austria. 2011 also saw him win the Swashbuckler middle distance triathlon, Windsor (breaking the AG course record), USN VOTWO Olympic, London Olympic Plus and Dublin City Tri.
At Galway 70.3, Matt qualified for the 2012 World 70.3 Championships, was 6th overall and 1st age grouper. At the World Ironman Championships in Kona he was 9th in the M40 category and posted the fastest time ever achieved by an Irishman in Kona (9:13:56) and came 87th overall. Four weeks later he backed that up at the ITU World Long Distance Championships in Vegas by coming 3rd M40, 8th non PRO and 29th overall.
In recognition of his achievements he was awarded Male Age Group Athlete of the year in the 2012 220 Triathlon Awards. In 2010 Matt won Gold in the M40 AG at the European Championships in Athlone, was 5th M40 at the ITU World AG Championships in Budapest, and was the M40 World Aquathlon Champion (bettering the previous year’s Silver at the Gold Coast). Matt was also 8th M40 at the World 70.3 Championships held in Clearwater.
2012 looks to be another very solid season for him and is a very firm Xendurance believer.
