Let’s talk about failure. Failure is not bad, it’s more mental than anything. What is the worst thing that can happen if you fail? Take a second to think about it. Not that bad right?
I came across this quote by Suzy Kaseem “Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will” and it really resonated with me. Failing doesn’t keep you from succeeding, doubting yourself does.
Check out these four tips for when failure gets the best of you.
Step One. Acknowledge and embrace the failure. Don’t get caught up in your own pity party. Believe in yourself, surround yourself with positive influences, and get back on that horse!
Failure is really just an opportunity to do something different. If you try something and it doesn’t work, evaluate what didn’t work, learn from your mistakes, and identify how you can approach the situation differently. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Step Two. Avoid insanity by learning from your mistakes and trying a different approach. Not sure what to do differently? Ask for help or do some research, someone else has more than likely been through a similar situation and can shed some light on the situation.
Not everyone’s successes look the same and it’s hard to remember that sometimes. Focus on yourself. Not everyone has the same opportunities, tools for success, or ideas of what success is. What does success look like to you? What tools do you have to help you achieve your goals and how can you achieve them?
Step Three. Don’t compare yourself to others, plain and simple. Failure is also about the process. Failing multiple times and trying something new may lead you somewhere you never dreamed of. Sometimes how you achieved your goal is more valuable than what you achieved. Keep an open mind and continue to work towards your goal.
Step Four. Trust the process; When one door closes a window can open. Acknowledge your failure. Try a different approach. Don’t Compare yourself to others. Trust the process.
