Greg Mannino was instrumental in helping to develop Shield + Protect. At age 17 he lost his leg in an accident and was encouraged to continue to snow ski by his father. It was his way of feeling normal when speeding very fast down a snow covered mountain. As he grew, he would constantly battle chafing and skin irritation with his prosthetic leg.

With the help of a well known dermatologist, they developed a formula to not only help with chafing, but it was a multi-use formula to address inflammation, odor and discomfort without slippage.

Greg became one of the top Paralympic athletes in the world, winning 22 medals and becoming the first ever Paralympic athlete featured on the cover of Skiing Magazine. Greg was a member of the US Disabled Alpine team from 1986-2001, a five-time Paralympic team member and he competed as a member of the 1988 US Olympic team.

Blisters are caused by abnormal pressure or friction on the skin. In hot and humid weather, blisters can form along high friction areas, Shield + Protect was developed to reduce friction. Leave a surface blister intact. If it opens, seek medical help.

• Staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water to help your skin stay flexible.
 • Keeping it clean. Dirt and perspiration on the skin increase irritation and friction. Be sure to use a gentle cleanser that won’t dry the skin.
 • Moisturizing in the morning. Well-moisturized skin resists rubbing better than dry skin. It also helps reduce inflammation, odor, and bacteria.
 • Moisturizing before bed. Use a night moisturizer that’s designed to help the skin heal. • Appling a friction barrier. Sometimes your skin needs extra help resisting chafing. Individuals with limb loss and athletes, in particular, need help to protect their skin from the high stress of their daily activities.

Our Shield + Protect applies like a lotion and dries to a powder finish that creates a friction barrier. It allows the skin to glide against any surfaces with which it comes into contact.
