I’ll be honest with you, I’m a planner. I like to have a schedule, in fact I thrive when I have a schedule. I’d also like to think I’m pretty good at going with the flow and adjusting when needed. So let’s cut to the chase here, the world has thrown us a total curveball. In an effort to do my small part I am working from home and focusing on staying healthy. There’s really no way of knowing when a global event will happen, but I’d like to think that because of my preventive measures, I am pretty well prepared.
As a kid I remember hearing my parents say, “if you don't have your health, what do you have?”, I’m by no means perfect, but I’m active throughout the week, eat my vegetables, take my supplements and clean my house regularly. Even when something that totally throws off my schedule hits, I still make it a point to keep my schedule with a few modifications. I am able to work from home so I’ve got “social distancing” down. I enjoy taking fitness classes like yoga, but that’s kind of out of the picture right now. I’ve taken to making up my own workouts and stretches and turn to Youtube when I don’t know what to do. I’m continuing to eat fairly well and take my regular supplements. Because I work for a health and wellness company I take a lot of different products but the two that I’m always stocked up on are, Hydro-Stix and Immune Boost. Here’s why:
Hydro-Stix
I love water. I’m one of those people that drinks a gallon a day and craves the taste of water, but not everyone feels the same way about H2O. Staying hydrated is essential to keeping the body healthy. Our kidneys are major players in this; the kidneys need to stay hydrated in order to properly remove waste from our system and regulate electrolytes. When dehydration kicks in there is an imbalance of electrolytes in the body. Electrolytes like potassium, phosphate, and sodium help to carry electrical signals between cells ensuring that our bodies are functioning correctly. What does all this have to do with Hydro-Stix? Hydro-Stix contain a unique ingredient called Sustamine. Sustamine is a more stable form of glutamine, a critical fuel source for immune cells, including white blood cells and certain intestinal cells. Sustamine also helps the body absorb water and electrolytes more efficiently. While drinking water alone can help to keep you hydrated, Hydro-Stix can help take your hydration to the next level ensuring that your body is firing on all cylinders.
Immune Boost
The name says it all. Immune Boost contains more than a handful of essential vitamins and minerals at research dosage levels. Let’s start at the beginning: Vitamin A. Vitamin A is often referred to as an anti inflammation vitamin because of its vital role in enhancing the immune system. Vitamin A is crucial for promoting growth and development in the body as well as protecting mucous membranes within the body and it even promotes eye health! We’ll skip B and C and go straight to vitamin D. I’ve always associated vitamin D with milk and strong bones, but it’s actually found in a lot more foods than you’d think and helps to strengthen the immune system. There are studies that link vitamin D deficiency to increased autoimmunity. One study followed 19,000 test subjects for over 5 years. Subjects with lower levels of vitamin D were more likely to report upper respiratory tract infection than those with sufficient amounts of vitamin D. Immunologic cells (B cells, T cells and antigen presenting cells) are able to synthesize vitamin D and respond positively, which in layman's terms, strengthens the immune system. Immune Boost is packed with other essential vitamins and minerals that compliment these two heavy hitters!
We may not know what’s in store in the next few days, months, etcetera but taking small preventative steps each day to strengthen our immune system and protect our health can help to prepare us for whatever the future brings. Stay hydrated, healthy, and adapt when your schedule gets disrupted.
